A Level Further Maths

 I have been looking at A-level text books on Amazon recently and am amused at some reviews of Bostock & Chandler's "Further Pure Mathematics" from the 1980's. The amusement comes from the reviewers not realising that A-Level Further Maths back then bore little resemblance to Further Maths today. Back then FM was more like 1st year undergrad mathematical methods that you would see at university. Today's FM is stuff that was included in standard Pure Maths A-Level back then.

My credentials for this opinion is that I did FM in the late 60s (failed) as I was required to do by my school it to fill my time. No teacher involvement, and I spent most of my time preparing for the Maths Special paper (which I at least past, if not brilliantly)..
